A Personal Note
      For many of us, Thanksgiving is about looking back and being thankful for all the good things that happened to us in the past year. When I look back, I find many things to be thankful for.

I am thankful to the levee system and all the people involved in building and maintaining it.  If it wasn’t for the extra feet added over years, my restaurant and my house would be under water. My heart goes out to those who were affected.

       The holiday season is known for many great traditions- gathering with family, decorating houses, eating delicacies and treats, but most of all- giving presents. For some , gift giving is a way to celebrate a special day. For others, it is a special occasion to let family and friends know that you care by giving gifts. When we give gifts, it brings joy or pleasure to the receiver. In addition, giving gifts is something which usually makes us feels good. When shopping for gifts it does not matter whether the gift is small or inexpensive, the value in terms of love is beyond measure. What makes us buy gifts?

Joe Divizia is a true humanitarian in his job and in his charitable activities. He is the Executive director of Luzerne County Office of Human Services, following 26 years of heading Children Service Center. Joe serves as the deacon in his church, All Saint Parish in Plymouth, and sereves on countless boards of charitable organizations that are dedicated to helping people in need. We are lucky and honored to have Joe chairing the advisory board of our "Dinners For Kids" program and we thank Mauria for supporting her husband in his very busy schedule.

Dinners for Kids
The Dinners for Kids Program, founded by us nine months ago, provides kid-approved nutritious and balanced dinners in a microwave-safe containers, accompanied with fresh fruit and home made desserts, to needy children in our community. The program has proven to be very successful and will grow from 50 to 100 children in the near future, thanks to a $20,000 grant from the Millennium Circle of the Luzerne Foundation and donations from local people and businesses. The Land on Barney Farms
In the very spot where Ollie’s Restaurant is sitting today, there used to be a large, working farm called Barney Farms. It was owned by Austrian immigrant Lesko Barney, who arrived at Ellis Island in 1883 with nothing more than a single wooden chest. With his two-week journey to America over, his travels continued westward until he finally settled in Edwardsville, Pa.
